Top 5 Home Remedies For Dog Ear Infections
Here is our list of natural remedies. Each one has been proven to be effective in treating ear infections in dogs and the ingredients are cheap and not hard to get.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Word of caution. Do not use vinegar if your dog has sore or reddish ears. This will cause a lot of pain for your dog. Vinegar will help remove debris and dirt and kill both bacteria and yeast infections. Also, do not ever use q-tips. They will only push the infection and dirt further down and can cause the eardrum to be ruptured.
Put the apple cider vinegar in a cup or glass with equal parts of water. Soak a cotton ball in the solution and apply it to your protection dog’s ear gently. You can also use a syringe filled with the solution and squirt a small amount into your dog’s ear.
Mullein Plant
Mullein can be found at most health stores and this herb has antibacterial elements which are good for bacterial ear infections. You will have to make your own remedy with this easy-to-do recipe. This will have to be done in advance to treat an ear infection.
Take mullein leaves and put them into a glass jar and cover them with olive oil. Add freshly chopped antibacterial garlic, (a clove or two), for an increased effect. You will have to allow the solution to sit for two to three weeks before using it. Soak with a cotton ball or a dropper and apply to the infected ear.
Oregano Oil
Another natural antibiotic that is very effective is the oil oregano. It must be diluted before applying to the ear or irritation will occur.
You will add one drop of oil of oregano and 1/2 oz of pure aloe vera juice. Use a dropper or cotton ball and apply gently to the affected area.
Calendula
Calendula can be used both externally and internally. It will offer relief from pain and is great for the immune system, as well as healing wounds. Like the mullein, you will want to stick the calendula in a glass jar and cover the calendula with olive oil. Add fresh chopped garlic. The calendula will be ready to use in 3 to 4 days. Strain the solution and use a dropper or cotton ball to apply to the infected ear. You can store the calendula solution for up to six months.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is a great ant-fungal and antibacterial remedy. A 2008 study in Dermatitis proved its effectiveness as an antifungal.
In a saucepan, place 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and two fresh cloves of garlic. Place on low heat. Let the mixture simmer until the oil liquefies completely. Let the oil cool before applying it to your dog’s ear. Place two to three drops up to three times a day for a week. Keep this solution handy so that you can use it again to clean your dog’s ears after the infection is gone and on a routine basis. This will prevent infections down the road.
Use one of these home remedies the next time your dog has an ear infection. Remember that natural remedies will not disrupt your protection dog’s immune system and will help your protection dog keep you protected.
