6 Common Toxins to Minimize in your Protection Dog’s Environment

We make sure our personal protection dogs and personal protection dogs for sale receive top-notch attention and care. After all, the care and well-being of your personal protection dogs are critically important for superior health and performance.

A dog’s living environment substantially influences your dog’s overall happiness and success. Becoming aware of potential harm to your dog is a diligent part of a protection dog owner’s best strategy to provide the best environment possible.

Got toxins?

Here are some handy tips for minimizing toxins around your dog’s environment:

1. Kick Plastics to the Curb

Just like your human friends, canines are not exempt from plastic poisoning. Plastic utensils, bowls, toys, and containers actually leach toxins unseen by the naked eye. Your protection dog should never be introduced to plastics where contact can be made through the skin, hair/fur, or oral capacities. Opt for glass, stainless steel, or natural fiber containers and toys. This caution is also for expectant canine parents or canines being raised for breeding.

Why is this Important?

At least one toxic compound in plastics (and there are many) known as BPA, is a xenoestrogen. This means it tries to act similarly to natural estrogen. Sadly, xenoestrogens put the endocrine system in a confused and compromised state, upsetting natural hormonal responses, impeding immune systems, and threatening fertility. Even BPA-Free plastics are still harmful.

2. Use a La Natural Dog Products

Resorting to natural fibers and fabrics is a comfortably secure measure for your protection dog’s comfort and health. Artificial fibers are toxic. A sturdy promise for your dog’s canine instincts is real leather bedding. It is tough, non-toxic, and nature-made. Always keep natural bedding, toys, blankets, and essentials clean before use.

Why is this Important?

Natural fibers and products are quite durable. They contain no artificial chemicals, perfumes, or dyes. Remember, products in today’s markets go through more processing than many of us realize. Make sure your dog’s personal items are high quality and safe.

3. Artificial Products are Out

The marketing word “artificial” is often a wolf in sheep’s clothing. It may aspire to be more about convenience for the consumer. Don’t be fooled. Even artificial products designed for human use play a dangerous role in the health of our pets. Deodorants, soaps, perfumes, cleaning products, oral health products, and more are just some of the more unsafe products lurking about.

Why is this Important?

Artificial things rarely ever live up to safety or quality products, especially if the product claims to be natural. Here is a great, natural pet shampoo recipe to get your dog sparkling clean, soft, and shiny, naturally:

“Homemade Dog Shampoo Recipe

First Ingredients

¾ cup distilled water
¼ cup lye – also called 100% sodium hydroxide (find it here or at local hardware stores)
⅔ cup olive oil
⅔ cup coconut oil (find organic coconut oil here)
⅔ cup other oil – I’ve been using a blend of safflower and sunflower
Directions

Mix the lye into the distilled water and set aside.
Blend all oils together, and heat slightly if the temperature of the mixture is under 100°F.
Add lye to the oils, stirring constantly.
After 5 minutes of stirring, use a stick blender to mix thoroughly. When the mixture is thick and looks like vanilla pudding (this is called “trace”), add the next set of ingredients.

Second Ingredients:

⅛ cup castor oil (find organic castor oil here)
⅛ cup lemon juice or white distilled vinegar
15 drops each: lemongrass, cedar, and eucalyptus essential oils
Blend these ingredients in well and pour the mixture into molds. After 24 hours, take out of the molds and cure 3-4 weeks.”

4. Pesticides Equals Problems

Pesticides and life forms don’t mix. Pesticides kill. That is their sole purpose. It is up to you who or what they kill. Just don’t use them. Flypaper, bay leaf, and chives can help repel flies. Lemon balm repels mosquitoes. Cymbopogon nardus or Citronella winterianus varieties of the Citronella plant grow large and help repel a variety of pests.

Why is this Important?

Giving up pesticides will help you and your protection dog remain healthier by a landslide. Pesticide exposure or residual exposure of pesticide toxins lady-in-waiting to get absorbed into your pet’s skin, lungs, and immune system. Remember above? Pesticides are designed to kill.

5. Commercial Dog Food Controversies

There are substantial conversations and concerns about how pesticides are affecting commercial dog foods, as well as human foods. Many ingredients in commercial dog foods are tainted with pesticides, wreaking havoc on or shortening the life spans of our pets. Commercial dog foods may also be packed in plastic containers or paper containers that may use plastic-infused packaging.

Why is this Important?

Glyphosate is one of the most concerning toxins used in industrial farms from when commercial dog foods originate. This toxin assaults plants’ metabolic pathways, which in turn poisons your protection dog’s good gut bacteria and other metabolic and systemic processes. Consider exploring safer and more ecological packaging processes made from non-genetically modified corn.

6. Electronics Awareness

Animals are sensitive creatures. Their senses are powerful. As odd as this may sound, the EMFs (electro-magnetic frequencies) derived from the electronic equipment we use, such as phones, computers, TVs, home wiring, fluorescent lighting, wifi, and more can disrupt your canine’s natural energies.

Why is this Important?

This is important because many people rarely give this much thought. According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer, “…the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) joined other prestigious committees around the world, including the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, to conclude that power-frequency electromagnetic fields (EMFs) are a possible carcinogen with a potential of doubling the leukemia risk among children consistently exposed to fields above 4 Milgauss (mG).” Animals are not exempt from this problem.
